Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie is seeking a move away from Ibrox in the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Record.
Philippe Clement has been actively clearing out unwanted players from the squad to make room for new additions, with several senior players already shown the exit door.
McCrorie, who has progressed through Rangers’ youth ranks, has made only seven senior appearances for the club to date. The 26-year-old has spent time on loan at various clubs and is now at a point in his career where he cannot afford to warm the bench any longer. He is looking to join a club where he can get regular game time.
Jack Butland is currently the first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers, making it difficult for McCrorie to secure playing time at Ibrox. The club is likely to allow him to move on if they receive a good offer. Clement is already seeking another goalkeeper to challenge Butland for the starting role.
Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly has been linked with a move to Rangers this summer, and reports suggest that the Gers are in talks to bring the 28-year-old to Ibrox. Kelly is currently with the Scottish national team at the 2024 Euro Championships but is expected to move to Rangers after the tournament.
Kelly came through the youth ranks at Rangers but never made the senior grade. This move presents a golden opportunity for him to rejoin the club and showcase his quality. With a wealth of experience, he should be a terrific signing on a free transfer.
Kelly’s arrival will likely pave the way for McCrorie’s departure. Meanwhile, Rangers are looking to reward highly-rated academy goalkeeper Mason Munn with a new four-year deal to remain at Ibrox. The Northern Irishman is in the mix to become the third-choice keeper for the first team.
McCrorie’s desire for regular playing time is understandable, and a move away from Ibrox could be beneficial for his career. Rangers, on the other hand, are preparing for the future by bringing in experienced competition for Butland and securing promising talent in Munn.
