Real Betis have finalised the signing of Marc Roca from Leeds United.
The Athletic’s DealSheet revealed earlier this week that the 27-year-old midfielder, who was on loan at Betis for the 2023-24 season, would make his move permanent. This has now been confirmed for an undisclosed fee.
Roca featured in 37 matches across all competitions for Manuel Pellegrini’s side last season, contributing three goals and four assists. His performances were instrumental in helping Betis secure a seventh-place finish in La Liga, ensuring European qualification.
Roca initially joined Leeds from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022 on a four-year contract. However, he left on loan after just one season following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.
The former Spain youth international played 32 Premier League games during the 2022-23 season, as Leeds were relegated on the final day.
He was among several players who exited Leeds on loan last summer after their relegation, including Robin Koch, Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober, Jack Harrison, Luis Sinisterra, Rasmus Kristensen, and Diego Llorente.
“Leeds United can confirm Marc Roca has joined Spanish La Liga outfit Real Betis, for an undisclosed fee,” read a statement on Leeds’ official website. “Roca spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Estadio Benito VillamarÃn and has now agreed a permanent move.”
As Leeds prepare for the 2024-25 season, they will travel to Germany for pre-season in July and kick off their campaign at home against newly-promoted Portsmouth.
