Rangers fans have every right to be gobsmacked by the departure of James Bisgrove as the club’s issues with developing Ibrox pile up.

That is according to Football Insider journalist and Scottish expert Daniel Bowers, speaking on the Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast about the exit of their former chief executive.

Bisgrove’s departure from Rangers after five years in various roles at the club was officially announced on 30 May, as he took up a new role at Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.

In recent weeks, problems with the redevelopment works at Ibrox have mounted to the point that it is unlikely the stadium will be ready for the 2024-25 season, and Bowers believes it appears Bisgrove “ran from the problem” and it is a “terrible look” for the club as the controversy escalates.

The Rangers board have been labelled a “disgrace” by former Aberdeen chief Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider on 27 June, for their handling of the situation, with Bisgrove far from spared the blame.

With Bisgrove leaving Rangers just days after the Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic capped a difficult campaign, the Ibrox chaos quickly unfolded. Significant delays in the shipping of key materials from Asia for the refurbishment of the Copland Road Stand have forced the Gers to seek alternative temporary homes, including hosting an upcoming pre-season match against Manchester United at Murrayfield next month.

Bowers claims Bisgrove must have been aware of the issues before clearing his office for the newly-promoted Saudi Pro League side, suggesting his departure comes across as escaping the problem.

It is also pointed out that no one has yet taken accountability for the mounting concerns surrounding Ibrox, with the club potentially facing significant costs to use a new stadium, likely Murrayfield, for domestic and European matches.

As Rangers scramble for a solution, supporters are appealing for some clarity and responsibility from the hierarchy. The situation leaves fans feeling frustrated and anxious about the future of their beloved stadium and the club’s ability to manage significant infrastructure projects.
