Gustaf Lagerbielke is poised to depart from Celtic this summer, sources have informed Football Insider.

Daniel Bowers, a Football Insider journalist and Scottish football expert, noted on the publication’s Inside Track podcast that the central defender is a “stick-on to leave.”

The 24-year-old joined Celtic to fill the void left by Carl Starfelt’s move to Celta Vigo, on the recommendation of Starfelt’s agent.

However, Lagerbielke has struggled to secure a regular spot in Brendan Rodgers’ lineup, sparking speculation about whether his signing was endorsed by the manager or influenced by external factors.

Supporters have described the Swedish international’s arrival at Celtic as a “puzzling” decision, and it now seems his tenure at the club could be short-lived.

Lagerbielke, who joined the Scottish champions last summer in a deal worth approximately £3 million from IF Elfsborg, has made only seven appearances in the Scottish Premiership this season. Rodgers has consistently opted for other defensive options, leaving Lagerbielke on the fringes of the squad.

Despite his limited playing time, Lagerbielke did have a standout moment last season, scoring a late winner against Feyenoord in the Champions League. That goal briefly highlighted his potential, but it hasn’t been enough to secure a more prominent role in the team.

The defender’s potential exit might not be an isolated event, as another player, Hyeon-gyu Oh, could also be on his way out. Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton suggested that Oh might be deemed surplus to requirements if Celtic succeed in signing Adam Idah.

This potential shake-up underscores a period of transition at Celtic Park as Brendan Rodgers looks to reshape his squad ahead of the new season, potentially marking the end of Lagerbielke’s brief stint at the club.
