Leicester City have announced the signing of Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace on a two-year contract.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian striker joins the Foxes with a wealth of experience, having played extensively in both the Premier League and Ligue 1, as well as for the Ghana national team.
Ayew, who made 212 appearances during his six-year spell at Crystal Palace, expressed his excitement about the move to Leicester. Speaking to LCFC.com, he said:
“I’m very happy to be here and I’m proud. I want to thank the Club as they fought hard to bring me here – it happened quickly and I’m so happy to be here.”
Ayew’s career began at Marseille, where he scored 14 goals in 111 league appearances. After his time in France, he moved to Aston Villa in 2015, where he finished the 2015/16 season as the club’s top scorer.
In 2017, Ayew joined Swansea City, making 50 appearances and scoring eight goals before moving to Crystal Palace, initially on loan and later signing permanently.
During his tenure at Palace, Ayew became a key figure, particularly during the 2019/20 season when he was named Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, and won Goal of the Season. He departs the Eagles having netted 23 goals.
On the international stage, Ayew has been a crucial player for Ghana, earning over 100 caps since his debut in 2010. He has represented his country in two FIFA World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, contributing to Ghana’s runner-up finish in 2015.
Leicester City will be hoping Ayew’s experience and proven track record in English football will add depth and quality to their attacking options as they look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
