Jayden Bogle faced sharp criticism from Andy Hinchcliffe during Sky Sports’ live coverage on 23 August, as the Leeds United defender was outmanoeuvred by Sheffield Wednesday’s Anthony Musaba.

The incident occurred in the sixth minute, with the new Whites full-back caught out of position and subsequently embarrassed by the home winger.

As Musaba managed to slip in behind Bogle, the Leeds defender found himself on the back foot, eventually tumbling off the pitch as his opponent cut back inside and won a corner. Hinchcliffe, unimpressed by Bogle’s early defensive lapse, didn’t hold back in his commentary.

“That’s really poor from Jayden Bogle. He’s ball-watching. Musaba should never be able to run in behind him,” Hinchcliffe remarked at 8.06pm.

“There’s no pressure on the ball so as a full-back don’t step up, don’t step away from your man. He’s caught watching the ball, no idea where Musaba is who just steps towards the ball then steps away. That creates the space. Bogle defensively all over the place.”

Musaba’s early threat down the left wing posed significant problems for Leeds United, who were desperate to secure their first win of the season.

Fortunately for the Whites, Brenden Aaronson provided a moment of relief in the 24th minute, scoring his first goal of the campaign after latching onto a loose ball in the box.

His composed finish came just in time to calm the nerves of a Leeds side struggling to find form following two goalless games.

The pressure on Daniel Farke’s squad has been mounting, especially in light of their difficulties in replacing key players who departed during the summer.

A poor start to the season has led to concerns that this campaign could be even more challenging than the last, as highlighted by pundit Richard Keys on 20 August.

Bogle, despite showing glimpses of quality since his arrival from Sheffield United, has yet to fully convince in his defensive duties.

After a shaky start against Wednesday, he did manage to regain some composure, helping to contain Musaba as Leeds took a slender one-goal lead into halftime.

Farke will be hoping his side can hold onto their advantage, secure their first victory of the season, and lift the spirits at Elland Road following the recent signing of Largie Ramazani.
