Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers remains optimistic that the Bhoys will bring in new signings before the transfer window closes, as the club braces itself for the departure of star midfielder Matt O’Riley.

The Scottish champions have agreed to sell the Denmark international for an initial £25 million, with the fee potentially rising to £30 million with add-ons.

While the move is financially lucrative, losing O’Riley is undoubtedly a significant blow, and Celtic must act swiftly to secure adequate replacements in the coming days.

According to a report in the Daily Record (page 56), Celtic are ramping up their efforts to sign Los Angeles FC playmaker Mateusz Bogusz.

The Hoops are also targeting Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels and Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the season’s challenges.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph provided an update on the pursuit of Bogusz. The 23-year-old midfielder has been on Celtic’s radar for some time, but negotiations were temporarily put on hold as LAFC focused on their Leagues Cup final against Columbus Crew. With that match now out of the way, Celtic are set to resume talks.

Joseph shared on X: “Update: Celtic will resume negotiations for attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz after LAFC’s cup final on Sunday.

“The clubs began discussions over a deal for the 23yo. However, LAFC don’t wish to move forward until after they have played Columbus Crew in the Leagues Cup final.”

Bogusz has been in fine form in the MLS, notching 13 goals and providing five assists this season. In total, he has contributed 16 goals and six assists across all competitions, performances that have not gone unnoticed by several top clubs. Securing his signature would be a shrewd move for Celtic, adding creative flair to their midfield.

Replacing O’Riley, however, will be no easy task. His impact on the pitch, both in terms of goals and assists, has been crucial for Celtic. Finding a like-for-like replacement may prove challenging, but Rodgers will be eager to use the funds from O’Riley’s sale wisely to strengthen the squad as a whole.
