Leicester City may still face a points deduction for breaching financial regulations, despite winning an initial appeal, according to Football Insider.
The Foxes were initially charged with a breach of Profitability and Sustainability (PSR) rules while competing in the Championship, based on accounts from their time in the Premier League.
However, Leicester successfully argued that by the time they submitted their accounts on 30th June, they were no longer a Premier League club, leading to the charges being dismissed.
This outcome has reportedly shocked both the Premier League and the English Football League (EFL), who are now considering their options for an appeal.
While Leicester have avoided punishment for now, they could still face a fresh charge, which might bring a points deduction during the 2024/25 season.
The latest report by Football Insider claims that sources have indicated Leicester may face another charge, having fallen “well short” of the spending limit.
This comes despite the club receiving around £40 million from the transfers of manager Enzo Maresca and midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea in June.
Leicester were once again considered a Premier League club when they submitted their accounts for the new period on 30th June.
This could mean the club is subject to a new investigation and potential charges if they are found to have breached financial rules a second time.
Similar breaches have seen other clubs penalised, including Everton, who were deducted eight points last season for two separate PSR breaches. Nottingham Forest also had four points docked for a similar violation.
There is speculation that Leicester could face a similar fate, with the Premier League eager to maintain consistency in its punishments, particularly after criticism of its handling of cases last season.
A points deduction would be a severe blow to Leicester’s hopes of staying in the Premier League. Under new manager Steve Cooper, the Foxes have had a difficult start to the season, managing just one point from their opening three matches.
After a draw with Tottenham, they suffered defeats to Aston Villa and Fulham, leaving them in 15th place with three goals scored and five conceded.
