West Ham United have bolstered their squad with the signing of Finland international Oona Siren.

The 21-year-old midfielder has joined the Hammers on a two-year deal from Norwegian side LSK Kvinner, where she gained valuable experience in Norway’s Toppserien and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Siren, who has earned 14 caps for her country, expressed her excitement at the move. Speaking to West Ham TV, she said:

“I’m really excited to be joining West Ham United. It feels amazing to be here. I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing in England. I know the Barclays Women’s Super League is the best league in the world and I want to test myself against the best players and the best teams.”

Her spell in the Champions League, coupled with international experience, has driven her to strive for more.

“My experience of playing for Finland and in the Champions League has given me the motivation to keep pushing to be the best player I can be. I know that coming to West Ham and working in this environment will help my development as a player. I can’t wait to get started.”

West Ham head coach Rehanne Skinner was equally enthusiastic about the new signing. Speaking to whufc.com, Skinner said:

“Oona is a young, exciting player with a huge amount of talent and potential. We have been impressed with her consistency for LSK Kvinner and I’m sure her work ethic and tenacity will allow her to adjust to the demands of the Barclays Women’s Super League.”

Describing Siren as a versatile and attacking midfielder, Skinner added, “I’m sure she will be a real asset to the team moving forwards.”
