Celtic’s financial rewards for their impressive opening Champions League win can now be revealed.
Brendan Rodgers’ side cruised to a 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava, securing three crucial points in their group stage campaign. Liam Scales set the tone with a powerful header, followed by goals from Kyogo, Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda, and Adam Idah.
Despite conceding a spectacular goal late on, Celtic’s dominant performance left them sitting comfortably at the top of their group.
The win not only boosts their prospects on the pitch but also adds significantly to the club’s coffers.
Celtic earned €2.1m (£1.77m) for the victory. Additionally, just participating in the group stages guarantees them a windfall of €18.62m (£15.7m).
In the Champions League, each win brings in €2.1m, while draws are worth €700k (£590k). Beyond that, each club will earn at least €275k for their league phase campaign, with an additional €275k awarded for each position they finish above 36th place.
This season’s total Champions League prize pool stands at a staggering €2.467bn, highlighting the financial gulf between European competition and domestic football.
For context, Celtic’s Scottish Premiership title win last season earned them a comparatively modest £4.2m in prize money for an entire season’s effort.
