Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has revealed that the club met with Premier League officials to discuss what he described as an “awful human error” that led to Crystal Palace’s controversial goal in their 2-2 draw last weekend.
The Foxes were 2-0 ahead at Selhurst Park, but a brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta levelled the match, with the first goal causing particular frustration.
Initially ruled offside, the goal was awarded after a VAR review, despite replays suggesting Mateta was in an offside position.
Speaking ahead of Leicester’s match against Everton, Cooper expressed his disappointment:
“We’re over it now, but it was an awful human error. We have seen images that show he clearly was offside, but they froze it at the wrong time – everything seen has been a false image.”
Cooper emphasised the impact of the mistake on his team:
“We had a massive error go against us, errors like that shouldn’t happen and it’s why we’re changing to the semi-automated system.”
Despite the frustration, Cooper acknowledged the club’s duty to challenge the decision:
“We felt very let down by it. We needed to stand up for the club and tell the Premier League what we thought.”
Leicester will now hope to move on from the controversy as they prepare for their next challenge against Everton.
