An “amazing” Champions League manager may well be in line to replace Sean Dyche at Everton if the club decides to part ways with him in the near future.
Everton Drop More Points at Leicester
The Toffees were back in Premier League action on Saturday, making the trip to face Leicester City and searching for their first points of the season.
While they managed a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium, there was a sense of disappointment surrounding the result, especially after they took an early lead through Iliman Ndiaye’s 12th-minute goal.
Everton failed to hold on to their advantage, with Leicester’s Stephy Mavididi equalising late on, forcing Dyche’s side to return to Merseyside with only a point.
The result wasn’t a complete disaster, ending a run of four straight Premier League defeats, but it did little to ease the pressure on Dyche, whose position has come under increasing scrutiny.
Champions League Manager in the Frame
According to The i, former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic could be a serious option to replace Dyche should Everton seek a managerial change.
The 41-year-old, who led Dortmund to the Champions League final last season, is reportedly eager to test himself in the Premier League.
Terzic isn’t the only name mentioned, however, with former Everton manager David Moyes and ex-Chelsea boss Graham Potter also reportedly on the club’s radar.
Moyes, who previously managed the Toffees for over a decade, could be a familiar face to guide them through turbulent times, while Potter’s recent Premier League experience could also appeal to the Everton hierarchy.
Terzic would, however, represent an exciting and bold choice for the Goodison Park faithful. Having led Dortmund to the Champions League final last season, where they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid, he earned widespread praise for his tactical acumen and ability to galvanise a young squad.
In the wake of that final defeat, no less a figure than José Mourinho offered his respect for the German coach, saying:
“Time is not going to help you. It’s going to be very hard for the rest of your career, for the rest of your life, but you have to be very proud of the work you did because it was amazing. As a coach, you couldn’t do more. You can’t put the ball in the back of the net. The coach can organise, can give mentality, can give confidence, and he did all that.”
Dyche’s Future Still in the Balance
At present, it appears Dyche still retains the backing of the Everton board, despite a dismal start to the season. However, with just one point from five matches and mounting pressure from supporters, it’s clear that further poor results could force the club to make a decision.
A return for Moyes might offer a pragmatic solution to steer Everton away from relegation danger, while Potter’s tactical approach could be intriguing.
But Terzic, known for his attacking 4-3-3 formation, might be the most adventurous choice. His recent success on the European stage would bring a fresh and ambitious outlook to Goodison, something the club desperately needs as they look to climb the Premier League table.
