Celtic winger Luis Palma has been warned that his future at the club looks increasingly uncertain under manager Brendan Rodgers.
Former Hearts and Hibs player Michael Stewart believes Palma’s performance in the Premier Sports Cup clash against Falkirk has only harmed his chances of breaking into Rodgers’ first-team plans.
This is despite being handed his first start of the season against the League One side.
Palma, who has so far been limited to three substitute appearances this term, was withdrawn after 60 minutes in the 2-0 win over Falkirk, and his display did little to impress.
Following the match, the 24-year-old Honduran international shared a cryptic post on Instagram, quoting in Spanish about resilience and overcoming adversity.
The post, however, backfired, drawing harsh criticism from Celtic fans.
Some supporters even compared him to former Rangers player Todd Cantwell, who faced similar backlash for his social media behaviour before his departure to Blackburn Rovers.
Celtic rebuffed interest in Palma during the latter stages of the summer transfer window, just a year after his £4.1 million move to Parkhead.
However, Stewart now suggests that Rodgers might be keen to move the player on in January, hinting that the winger’s time in Glasgow could soon be up.
Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club, Stewart said:
“For Luis Palma, I’m struggling to see how he is going to make his way back because the competition is tough. I don’t see how he is going to be able to make his way back at Celtic.
“I would not be surprised if come January he was being moved on elsewhere, because I don’t see him having the impact you would have hoped for and expected. He was a big summer transfer last year, so, no I wouldn’t be surprised if Palma is moved on.”
With mounting competition for places at Celtic, Palma’s future remains in the balance.
