Alan Myers issues verdict on former Chelsea Manager replacing Sean Dyche as Everton Manager amid Sack call after Dan Friedkin takeover agreement

Alan Myers has urged caution over reports linking Maurizio Sarri to Everton, suggesting such claims should be taken with a “pinch of salt” amid developments surrounding the club’s prospective takeover.

Recent reports from Italy claimed that the new owners, who are set to take control from Farhad Moshiri, view the former Chelsea and Lazio manager as a potential replacement for Sean Dyche.

According to Corriere dello Sport (25 September), Sarri’s name has been floated as part of the sweeping changes that could come to Goodison Park once the takeover is complete.

However, Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has downplayed these links, suggesting the current focus of the Friedkin Group, the American consortium behind the takeover, remains solely on completing the acquisition.

Writing on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday (25 September), Myers said, “The focus is on the regulatory process, that’s what they’re concentrated on right now, there will be many, many stories. I’d take most if not all with a pinch of salt.”

Speculation surrounding Sean Dyche’s future has been rife since news of the takeover broke, with reports suggesting that the new owners could opt for a change in the dugout. Yet, as Myers points out, the group’s immediate priority is to finalise the purchase before any significant decisions are made.

The Friedkin Group is expected to conduct a thorough audit of Everton’s football operations once they assume control, as reported by i News (23 September).

Such a review will almost certainly cast Dyche’s role into the spotlight, with questions raised over whether the current manager is the right man to guide Everton away from the relegation zone.

While Dyche’s future remains uncertain, the new owners may well decide to back him, especially if they believe he is best suited to avoiding the club’s potential drop into the Championship.

In the meantime, as the takeover inches closer to completion, speculation over who might replace Dyche is likely to persist, with Sarri just one of many names linked to the Merseyside club.
