AS Roma’s director of football, Florent Ghisolfi, has given Everton supporters a glimpse into what the future could hold with recent comments on the Italian club’s direction.
Ghisolfi’s remarks, covered today by Gazzetta dello Sport, offer insights into the long-term vision for Roma, which may be of particular interest to Everton fans, given the shared ownership ties.
Roma, under the Friedkin Group’s control, is currently navigating through turbulent waters.
The American consortium, which revived its interest in Everton in late September, is closing in on completing a full takeover of the Merseyside club.
Should the process proceed without a hitch, the acquisition is expected to be finalised by the year’s end.
However, before they can fully focus on the Toffees, the Friedkin Group is dealing with significant challenges at Roma.
The sacking of former manager Daniele de Rossi has sparked outrage among the club’s passionate ultras, leading to growing unrest.
The club’s CEO was forced to step down and, at one stage, required police protection, a clear sign of the tensions brewing in the capital.
Despite these obstacles, Roma’s American owners had previously managed to stabilise the club, clearing its debts and guiding it towards profitability while remaining competitive in Serie A and European competitions.
Now, with their sights on Everton, rumours have circulated that the Friedkins may eventually abandon Roma once they complete the purchase of the Premier League side.
Ghisolfi, however, has moved swiftly to dismiss these claims.
“We want a club that is not dependent on technicians or managers, we want to create stability, and we are doing it by expanding the management,” he said.
“We have avoided loans to increase the value of the club’s players. The CEO will be announced soon. Sertori is the director of performance, and we will rebuild the scouting department.
“The Friedkins want a great team in the new stadium. The purchase of Everton? Nothing will change for Roma.”
