Celtic have been fined approximately £16,700 (€20,000) following the use of fireworks by supporters during their recent Champions League defeat away to Borussia Dortmund.
The punishment was handed down by UEFA’s ethics and disciplinary body, and further sanctions could follow if there is a repeat offence.
The governing body announced that the Scottish champions could also face a one-match ban on selling tickets to away fans at UEFA competitions, with the ban suspended for two years.
A UEFA statement read: “To fine Celtic FC €20,000 and to ban Celtic FC from selling tickets to its away supporters for a total of one (1) UEFA club competition match, for lighting of fireworks.
“Said ban from selling tickets to its away supporters is suspended for a probationary period of two (2) years, starting from the date of the present decision.”
Celtic Look to Bounce Back Against Atalanta:
The Hoops began their Champions League campaign strongly with a 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava at home. However, their momentum was halted in emphatic fashion by a 7-1 thrashing in Germany against Borussia Dortmund.
Brendan Rodgers and his players now face another tough European test, travelling to Italy next week to take on Atalanta, the reigning Europa League champions.
The match in Bergamo presents a crucial opportunity for Celtic to improve their form on the road in Europe after their dismal outing in Dortmund.
Before their trip to Italy, however, Celtic will have to turn their attention back to domestic matters, with a crucial match against Aberdeen on the horizon.
A win over one of their nearest rivals in the Scottish Premiership would provide a significant boost ahead of their European challenge.
Important Information for Travelling Fans:
With thousands of Celtic supporters expected to make the journey to Italy, the club has issued important guidance for those attending the match.
Local authorities in Bergamo have outlined specific matchday protocols, including no-go areas for visiting fans before and after the game.
A mandatory shuttle service will transport supporters to the stadium, and fans will be required to present both photo identification and their match tickets to Atalanta staff upon arrival.
In light of the recent UEFA fine, Celtic have also stressed that fans must refrain from bringing pyro or fireworks to the match.
With the threat of an away game ban hanging over the club, adherence to these rules will be crucial for both the fans and Celtic’s European campaign.
