Brendan Rodgers suggested that Aberdeen are gaining an edge in the Scottish Premiership by not having European football to contend with this season.
Celtic let a two-goal lead slip at home on Saturday, drawing 2-2 with the Dons in a frustrating afternoon at Celtic Park. The result leaves both teams level at the top of the table with eight games played.
While many had expected Celtic to dominate the match, Aberdeen showed resilience, with Rodgers acknowledging the impact of their additional preparation time.
“They are a good team, well-coached,” Rodgers told BBC Scotland after the match.
“They have the luxury of no European football, so they can prepare going into each game each week. They work it well.”
Despite the setback, Rodgers felt his side should have claimed all three points.
“We should win the game today, there is no doubt about that. We just could not find the killer instinct,” he admitted.
Celtic’s attention now turns to Europe, as they prepare to face Atalanta in the Champions League next week. Meanwhile, Aberdeen will look to build on their strong league form when they welcome Dundee United to Pittodrie in their next fixture.
