Celtic star Kasper Schmeichel fires back at Critics after Outstanding display against Atalanta as Joe Hart and Neil Lennon praises ONE Celtic star’s performance for single-handedly preventing Hoops from defeat

Celtic entered Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with Atalanta under considerable pressure, carrying the weight of recent disappointments and a desire to prove they belong among Europe’s elite.

After their humbling 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the previous fixture, the Scottish champions faced the daunting task of rebuilding confidence and earning respect on the continental stage.

In the build-up to the match, manager Brendan Rodgers was defiant, calling for his players to rise to the occasion.

And when the whistle blew inBergamo, his team responded with a determined performance, securing a hard-fought goalless draw that surprised many.

The draw not only halted the slide but also demonstrated that Celtic can defend with discipline and grit against some of the best teams in Europe.

It was a significant improvement from their previous showing and a message to supporters that the team is capable of competing on challenging away nights.

One of the most scrutinised figures in the wake of the Dortmund defeat was goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. However, the Denmark international put in a commanding display against Atalanta, redeeming himself and earning praise from former teammates and pundits alike.

Joe Hart, Celtic’s recently retired shot-stopper, was quick to applaud his successor’s performance.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Hart said: “Kasper has been outstanding so far. You see so many threats when you see the whole pitch, and you are so aware.”

Schmeichel impressed with his aerial presence, composure with loose balls, and ability to organise his defence.

Hart emphasised the crucial partnership between Schmeichel and centre-backs Auston Trusty and Liam Scales.

“Working as a team, with Trusty and Scales, they have been excellent. Really, really good tonight.”

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon also praised Schmeichel for his resilience, particularly under pressure in the first half.

“These things happen in a game,” Lennon said at half-time. “This is where Kasper has to step up, and he has done brilliantly so far.”

Reflecting on the match’s closing stages, Hart added: “No, he hasn’t been pushed beyond his limits. It’s all about concentration and taking care of business. Little nasty shots in front of him, and he handled them well.”

Post-Match Reflections: A Positive Turning Point?

The draw leaves Celtic with four points from three group-stage matches, a tally that most fans would have gladly accepted before the campaign began.

While there is still work to be done, the performance in Bergamo has injected a sense of optimism back into the squad and among supporters.

Neil Lennon highlighted the importance of the result, not only for the players but also for Rodgers.

“I think this is so significant, not just for the players, but for Brendan as well,” said Lennon.

“They can go away from home, be resolute, be disciplined, and see the game out.”

Lennon also noted how Atalanta’s intensity waned as the match progressed.

“After 70 minutes, Atalanta ran out of ideas. I wouldn’t say it was comfortable, but Kasper didn’t have a lot to do in the second half. In the first half, he made some really great and important saves. I think, overall, it’s a fantastic night for the club.”

The result is a much-needed boost for Celtic, giving them belief that they can navigate the challenges of European football. With their defensive resilience on display, the Bhoys will look to build on this performance and push forward in their Champions League campaign.
