Brendan Rodgers expressed his satisfaction following Celtic’s 2-0 victory over Dundee last night. Despite a slow first half, Celtic tightened their grip after the break, with goals from Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels sealing the points.
Johnston’s opener, a quick toe-poke from the substitute, set the tone, while Engels added a second from the penalty spot.
The win was all that mattered, as it secured both three points and a clean sheet, keeping the Hoops at the summit of the Scottish Premiership.
The result means Celtic remain top of the table, level on points with Aberdeen but ahead on goal difference.
Aberdeen have been a surprise package this season, keeping pace with Celtic and taking a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Celtic Park earlier in the month.
While it may be too early to consider them serious title contenders, Aberdeen’s strong form has put them in the mix, and they continued their impressive start last night with a 2-1 win over Rangers at Pittodrie.
Rodgers, however, refrained from speculating on Aberdeen’s prospects or discussing Rangers’ current struggles.
When asked on BBC Sportsound about Rangers’ defeat to the Dons, Rodgers shifted focus back to his own team’s performance, highlighting the importance of consistency over external results.
“My only focus is on ourselves, really looking at us improving our performance level as we go through the season. We’ve made a brilliant start domestically,” he said.
Looking ahead to Celtic’s upcoming League Cup semi-final clash with Aberdeen at Hampden, Rodgers acknowledged the challenge posed by Jimmy Thelin’s side, who have shown resilience and ambition in the early stages of the season.
Reflecting on Celtic’s previous encounter with Aberdeen, Rodgers noted, “We should win here against Aberdeen. We went a bit slack, but we’ll be better and learn from that.”
With 10 games played, Rodgers is content with Celtic’s position and progress, noting the strong squad spirit and high-quality football on display.
“I’m really pleased with where we’re at. The squad, the spirit, everything is really good. Some of the football has been fantastic and with lots of improvements to make, because it’s only 10 games,” he added.
For now, Rodgers’ primary focus remains on ensuring Celtic continue their upward trajectory.
