Manchester United’s interest in Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite remains firm, with new manager Ruben Amorim’s arrival doing nothing to shift their transfer strategy.
According to Graeme Bailey, despite Erik ten Hag’s dismissal and Amorim’s recent appointment, the Red Devils have no intention of dropping Branthwaite from their list of targets.
“Man United are still interested, with Amorim going in it won’t change their transfer strategy in the slightest,” Bailey told Everton News.
Branthwaite is a key asset for Everton, particularly as the club struggles to find quality across the pitch.
With limited talent to lean on, selling the young defender at this juncture would be unwise.
The 22-year-old impressed last season in the Premier League following a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven, making 35 appearances for the Blues and proving his potential in England’s top tier.
However, injuries have hampered Branthwaite’s availability this season. Manager Sean Dyche has frequently turned to James Tarkowski and Michael Keane in defence, though many view Branthwaite as a level above his fellow defenders when fit.
If Everton aim to build a brighter future, particularly with prospective new owners the Friedkin Group eyeing the club, retaining Branthwaite is crucial.
The young defender’s presence could be foundational as Everton prepare to move into their new stadium, where they’ll want players who embody their ambitions.
For the Toffees, keeping hold of Branthwaite won’t be easy as top clubs circle, but he could be vital in shaping the club’s future.
As the 22-year-old grows in prominence, he might well become a central figure in Everton’s longer-term vision.
Everton are set to travel to Southampton next on 2 November. It remains to be seen whether Branthwaite will be fit to play a part in Dyche’s plans.
