It’s a huge Champions League night for Celtic as they host RB Leipzig at Parkhead, and among the crowd is a familiar face who once lit up the famous stadium.
Victor Wanyama, who spent two memorable seasons at Celtic from 2011 to 2013, returned to Glasgow to cheer on his former side.
The Kenyan international won back-to-back Premiership titles during his time at the club and played a starring role in the iconic Champions League victory over Barcelona.
Renowned for his commanding performances in midfield and his light-hearted social media posts, Wanyama remains a firm favourite among the Celtic faithful.
Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of the Leipzig clash, Wanyama reflected fondly on his time in Glasgow.
“Yeah sure, I remember everything!” he said with a smile.
“This is one of the best stadiums I have ever played in. It’s difficult to explain because once you step out there and you see the support, the fans, the feeling is you want to give everything.
“To players, it means a lot to see the fans out there giving their all and supporting their team, so it’s nice to see.”
Celtic fans, who clearly haven’t forgotten the midfield powerhouse, took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate his return. Many called for Wanyama to don the Hoops once again.
One fan joked: “Get stripped big man!!”
Another said: “I miss you Big Vic.”
A third added: “Midfield destroyer, the big man was the best out and out defensive midfielder I’ve ever seen play for Celtic.”
One supporter simply wrote: “Get him back in the team.”
There was also a nod to Wanyama’s legendary 2012 tweet, which read: “I had spaghetti it was very nice I enjoyed it.”
One fan quipped: “Great to see big Victor back, I hope Celtic had spaghetti on the menu, it’s very nice and he enjoys it!”
