Celtic defender Alistair Johnston is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract at Parkhead.
The 26-year-old has emerged as a crucial figure under Brendan Rodgers, and the club are eager to secure his services for the foreseeable future.
According to the Daily Record, negotiations have been progressing well, with Johnston’s representative currently in Scotland to finalise the paperwork.
The Canadian international, who is already contracted until 2027, is set to receive a significant pay rise as part of the new deal, underlining his value to the club.
Johnston’s Rise at Celtic
Johnston joined Celtic from Montreal in 2022 under former manager Ange Postecoglou and has been a model of consistency ever since.
His performances have remained stellar under Rodgers, contributing four goals and four assists across all competitions this season.
The right-back was particularly impressive in Celtic’s midweek Champions League victory over RB Leipzig. Johnston not only delivered the assist for the third goal but also put in a commanding defensive display as the Hoops secured a 3-1 win.
Celtic are hopeful that Johnston will commit his future to the club imminently. A source close to the player revealed: “He’s happy here and wants to keep contributing to the team’s success.”
Other Contract Talks on the Horizon
Securing Johnston’s long-term future is just one part of Rodgers’ plans. Left-back Greg Taylor, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is yet to agree new terms.
The 27-year-old remains a key player, and the club will likely intensify efforts to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, attention is also on Nicolas Kuhn, who was instrumental in the win over Leipzig, taking his tally to nine goals and ten assists in 16 appearances.
Despite growing interest from Premier League clubs, Celtic are under no pressure to sell the German winger, who has quickly become one of the team’s most valuable assets.
