Vladimir Coufal’s time at West Ham United could be coming to an end if the club pursues a move for Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters.
The Czech international has been a reliable presence for the Hammers since his 2020 arrival from Slavia Prague, but reports suggest his position is under threat.
According to the Sunday Mirror, West Ham are interested in signing Walker-Peters, whose contract with the Saints expires next summer. The versatile full-back has reportedly refused to negotiate a new deal, opening the door for a potential move.
West Ham previously baulked at Southampton’s valuation of the 27-year-old but may now capitalise on his contractual situation, either in January or as a free transfer next summer. Should the deal materialise, it could spell the end of Coufal’s tenure in East London.
Coufal’s Role Under Threat
The 32-year-old has already seen his game time severely curtailed following the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka earlier this season.
The former Manchester United defender has slotted seamlessly into Julen Lopetegui’s side, relegating Coufal to a backup role.
Coufal has managed just two Premier League starts this term, with three further appearances off the bench. While Wan-Bissaka has brought youthful energy and top-flight experience, Coufal remains a dependable option as a second-choice right-back.
However, Walker-Peters’ potential arrival could push Coufal even further down the pecking order.
The former Tottenham defender’s ability to operate on both flanks makes him an attractive target for West Ham, particularly with a cut-price deal in January or a free transfer in the summer on the cards.
For Coufal, this could represent the final blow, leaving him as third choice—a position unworthy of his talent and consistency.
