Philippe Clement has issued a defiant message to Celtic and Aberdeen despite Rangers dropping more points in a frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Dundee United.
The Light Blues found themselves trailing when Sam Dalby put the visitors ahead, leaving fans fearing a damaging defeat. However, Vaclav Cerny salvaged a point, though the result means Celtic could extend their lead to 11 points if they beat Hearts on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen’s unbeaten run came to an end as St Mirren handed Jimmy Thelin’s side their first defeat of the season. Despite this, Rangers remain eight points behind Aberdeen, having missed a chance to narrow the gap further.
Clement, however, refuses to give up hope in the title race. Speaking after the match, he said:
“Fans can think what they want, and that’s their right also. I never give up if something is not possible. I see also what I see in the second half. Of course, it’s a big gap. You don’t know what other teams, how many points they lose along the way.
“We need to get more points. You see also if you play like you played in the second half, you will get more points. We need to put that as a standard for the team, for everybody.”
Clement acknowledged Rangers’ struggles this season, lamenting dropped points in games they previously would have won.
“We lose too many points, we’re not where we want to be as a club. We knew that before this game. So, in that way, it’s two points lost again that we cannot lose.
“Today, I cannot say anything about the second half, about the way the team pushed. There was also a really good goalkeeper on the other side today, who was important in a few really good saves. In that way, we need to show more of the level of the second half, much more.”
