Manchester United are reportedly keen to sign Brazilian international Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the upcoming January transfer window.
The 25-year-old forward has been in scintillating form this season, netting seven goals and providing three assists in his first 12 Premier League appearances.
Cunha has been directly involved in half of Wolves’ 20 goals this campaign, playing a pivotal role in their recent upturn in form with key contributions against Southampton and Fulham.
Despite Wolves’ struggles near the foot of the table, Cunha sits joint fourth in the Premier League scoring charts, level with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer.
According to TBR Football, Manchester United have been monitoring the former Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig star throughout the season as new manager Ruben Amorim seeks to strengthen his attacking options.
United’s interest in Cunha is not new, as the club previously considered him as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo during his time at Atletico Madrid.
However, Manchester United face competition from both Tottenham Hotspur and Serie A title challengers Napoli, who are also said to be closely tracking Cunha’s performances.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News about the speculation, Cunha said:
“You know it’s a real honour to have your name linked to Manchester United.”
United reportedly explored a move for Cunha over the summer following his arrival at Molineux, but no deal materialised, with the club signing Zirkzee instead.
Now, they could reignite their pursuit of the Brazilian in January to bolster their attacking ranks.
