Ross McCormack has tipped Derek McInnes as the ideal candidate to take charge at Rangers, should the club part ways with current boss Philippe Clement.
McInnes, currently managing Kilmarnock, is reportedly the frontrunner to succeed Clement, whose side trail Celtic by 11 points in the Scottish Premiership. While the Belgian remains in charge for now, speculation continues to mount.
Speaking on the Open Goal Podcast (26 November), McCormack suggested McInnes could bring the stability Rangers need in a turbulent period.
“I think McInnes would get Rangers beating every other team in the league and then one-off games against Celtic, you never know,” McCormack said at 39:05.
“It depends on how Rangers look at it. If Rangers think that they’ve got a lot of players on the books that are not going to leave because say that their wages are too high, so they’re going to sit there.
“Might take them two to three windows to get rid of all of their players. If that’s the case then they’re not going to be paying money to get other players in. In that case, I think Derek McInnes is a perfect one just to get them through that rocky period and then look at a bigger name.”
