Sean Dyche is increasingly worried about Everton’s inability to find the back of the net, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal drought becoming a significant concern.
Sky Sports journalist Alan Irwin reported live from Finch Farm on Wednesday (29 November, 2:38pm) that the Everton boss knows the lack of firepower is jeopardizing their chances of success in the Premier League.
The Toffees have scored just 10 goals in the league this season, making them joint second-lowest scorers. Of those 10, only two have come from Calvert-Lewin, with his last strike dating back to mid-September.
Speaking on Dyche’s mindset, Irwin said:
“I think he will be very concerned, albeit he didn’t show it when I spoke to him a while ago. It’s three games without a goal and he knows goals win matches – the fact of the manner is Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t scored in eight Premier League games.”
Despite the drought, Dyche has stuck with the 27-year-old striker, starting him in all 12 Premier League games this season. However, Everton’s precarious position in 15th place is raising questions about the manager’s approach.
The Toffees’ last goal came three matches ago when Beto struck in the 94th minute to secure a point against Fulham.
Yet, the Guinea-Bissau international has been restricted to substitute appearances, featuring off the bench in all eight of his league games this term.
Dyche’s persistence with Calvert-Lewin, despite his struggles, has left many fans and pundits puzzled.
Injuries haven’t helped Everton’s attacking options. On-loan striker Armando Broja remains sidelined, and Beto’s lack of game time has sparked speculation about his future.
Dyche’s continued reliance on Calvert-Lewin risks becoming a focal point of criticism as the striker’s confidence and output dwindle.
Calvert-Lewin’s uncertain contractual situation only adds to the pressure. With the striker failing to deliver in front of goal, Dyche faces tough decisions that could define his tenure. Everton need solutions quickly, or Dyche’s loyalty to his misfiring forward might become a costly mistake.
