Nottingham Forest returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town, courtesy of Chris Wood’s ninth goal of the season.
The New Zealand international is enjoying a remarkable run of form, with nine goals in just 13 appearances—a tally few would have predicted before the campaign began.
Despite Ipswich’s efforts to stifle Wood, they could do nothing to stop his decisive penalty, which proved enough to secure all three points. While the win wasn’t without its challenges, Forest will be relieved to get their European push back on track.
Jota Silva’s Mixed Afternoon
One talking point from the game was the performance of Jota Silva, who started on the right side of midfield for the first time this season.
While the Portuguese winger did win the penalty converted by Wood, his overall display left much to be desired.
Former Nottingham Forest player Steve Hodge, speaking on BBC Radio Nottingham, was critical of Silva’s contribution:
“I don’t think he was great today. I think Elanga probably does offer more. But he has won the penalty, and ultimately he’ll know he can play better than that.”
Jota Silva’s Numbers
Silva played 78 minutes before being replaced by Anthony Elanga. He had 29 touches, a passing accuracy of 50%, and created one big chance.
However, he failed with both of his crosses and lost possession 13 times. He did win eight out of 13 duels, was fouled three times, and completed his only dribble.
With Manchester City up next, Nuno Espírito Santo may turn back to Elanga, whose pace and directness could prove more effective against a high-pressing side. For now, Forest will take comfort in another solid result as they continue their strong start to the season.
