Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton clashed in a lively debate ahead of Rangers’ narrow 1-0 win over St Johnstone, with the pair discussing which striker Philippe Clement should select as his first choice.
After Hamza Igamane’s standout performance against Nice in the Europa League, Clement rewarded the forward with a starting berth at McDiarmid Park.
Cyriel Dessers and Danilo were relegated to the bench, as the manager juggles his options in an increasingly competitive forward line.
The game itself offered little in attacking brilliance. A Jason Holt own goal, forced by James Tavernier’s pressing, proved enough to secure the three points.
During a heated exchange on Sky Sports (1 December, 11:45am), Boyd argued for Clement’s approach, though Sutton quickly sought to provoke him.
Boyd said, “Can I speak? You’ve cut me off three times. Last week, Dessers started for 45 minutes, Danilo came on, but because he can’t play during the week, Igamane comes in. He’s done well, so he starts. All three have attributes, and if you put them together, you might get a proper No.9 for Rangers.”
Sutton, clearly enjoying winding up Boyd, retorted, “You’ve still not answered… I’d start Dessers.”
