West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has brushed off speculation linking him with the Wolves job, reiterating his focus on his current role at The Hawthorns.

The Spaniard’s name has surfaced as a potential candidate to replace Gary O’Neil, who finds himself under mounting pressure at Molineux after a poor season.

Wolves, currently sitting in the relegation zone and three points adrift of safety, are reportedly considering a managerial change, with O’Neil’s position thought to be in jeopardy if results don’t improve.

The situation could come to a head following Wolves’ game against West Ham on Monday night, with Corberan reportedly on their radar.

Despite West Brom enduring their own struggles—winning just once in their last ten games—Corberan remains highly regarded for the work he has done since arriving at Albion. However, the rivalry between the two clubs adds an extra layer of intrigue to the links with Wolves.

When asked about the speculation, Corberan was keen to stay focused on Albion’s next challenge against Sheffield United. Speaking to Birmingham Live, he said:

“I came here just to be focused on giving you answers to questions on the game we are going to play against Sheffield United. For me, it’s a very important game and all of my concentration is on this. I just want to give answers related with this topic.

“We are playing one game on Sunday that is very, very important for us. We are preparing well because we know Sheffield United are a team who are competing at a very high level. Right now, they’re the best team in the league, even without the points deduction. All of my concentration and focus is on this.

“I am a little bit far from any type of rumour or speculation or talks. I have learned the best way to make my job is to be focused in my job. The best way to do things is to focus on the things that I can control.”

While Corberan’s response is a typical one from managers, some Albion supporters may have preferred a categorical dismissal of the Wolves link given the fierce rivalry between the clubs.

Corberan, who oversaw West Brom’s defeat to Wolves in the FA Cup in January, understands the animosity well, and any move across the divide would be contentious.

For Wolves, any new manager would need to hit the ground running to win over the fanbase, especially given O’Neil’s struggles to maximise the potential of the squad.

For now, Corberan’s focus is firmly on Sunday’s match against Sheffield United. Albion face a tough test against the league leaders as they aim to climb back into the play-off places and reignite their season. Speculation about Corberan’s future, however, is unlikely to fade as Wolves consider their next move.
