Celtic are preparing to give young Irish striker Johnny Kenny a shot at breaking into the first team at Parkhead.
Manager Brendan Rodgers is eager to bolster his attacking options, seeking a youthful alternative to provide competition and cover for Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah. Kenny, 21, has made a strong case for himself during a successful loan spell with Shamrock Rovers.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has been in impressive form, scoring 18 goals this season, including three in European competition.
His latest strike came in a standout 1-1 draw against Rapid Vienna, helping Rovers edge closer to the Europa Conference League play-offs.
On loan at Rovers since January, Kenny has proven himself against top opposition, with goals against Larne and The New Saints contributing to the club’s rise to tenth in the Europa Conference League rankings.
The striker, contracted to Celtic until 2026, still has two more European fixtures – against Borac Banja Luka and Chelsea – to cement his credentials before returning to Glasgow.
Meanwhile, Celtic face uncertainty over the future of 18-year-old Daniel Cummings. The teenage forward has been in scintillating form, netting 22 goals in 20 games for the youth side this season, alongside five goals in five UEFA Youth League matches, including a winner against Club Brugge.
Despite his performances, the Scottish champions have yet to offer Cummings a new deal, with his current contract expiring this summer.
A host of English clubs, including Brentford, Wolves, and Burnley, are monitoring the situation. Should he leave, Celtic could recoup training compensation of up to £330,000.
