New Leicester City manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy is reportedly targeting Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer for a January loan move, according to The Sun.

The Dutchman, who recently took charge at the King Power Stadium, is keen to bolster his squad as the Foxes battle to avoid relegation.

Collyer, 20, made his senior debut for United during their Community Shield defeat to Manchester City in August after earning promotion to the first team over the summer.

He has since made two more appearances, including his Premier League debut in a 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford in September. However, his involvement has been limited, with his last outing coming in a 7-0 win over Barnsley in the EFL Cup later that month.

Van Nistelrooy is said to be a big admirer of Collyer and sees the midfielder as a potential asset for Leicester. The Dutchman, who briefly worked with Collyer during his interim stint at United, is preparing a loan offer to secure the youngster’s services.

Collyer’s Development at a Crossroads

Collyer joined United from Brighton’s academy in March 2022 and has spent the past two years developing in the club’s youth system. Despite his promotion to the senior squad this season, he is not yet seen as a key figure in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

While United are reluctant to lose a promising talent, they may consider a temporary move given Collyer’s lack of regular game time. A loan spell under a manager they know and trust, like Van Nistelrooy, could be viewed as beneficial for the midfielder’s development.

A Key Player for Leicester’s Survival Push?

Van Nistelrooy believes Collyer could play an important role in Leicester’s fight to stay in the Premier League. By offering the 20-year-old more consistent minutes in a competitive environment, the Foxes hope to strengthen their midfield while aiding the player’s growth.

The potential move would depend on United’s willingness to let Collyer leave temporarily, but Van Nistelrooy appears determined to reunite with the youngster in January as he looks to reshape Leicester’s fortunes.
