Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has dismissed the idea of recalling Odsonne Edouard from his loan spell at Leicester City, arguing that the striker’s struggles for game time make a January return illogical.

The French forward joined Leicester on a season-long loan in the summer, shortly after extending his contract with Palace until 2027.

However, his move to the King Power Stadium has been far from fruitful. Edouard has made just six appearances this season and was notably left out of Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s first squad as Leicester manager for their 3-1 victory over West Ham in midweek.

Reports this week suggested Leicester could terminate Edouard’s loan in January, but Glasner has poured cold water on the idea of bringing the 26-year-old back to Selhurst Park.

“We always follow our loan players,” Glasner said.

“This week, with three games, it’s not my highest priority to think about Odsonne. I don’t know about the contract details. It makes no sense from our side to bring him back. If he doesn’t play for Leicester, why should he play for Crystal Palace?

“It was the same situation in the summer. He decided that maybe he would get more minutes there. We explained the situation to him.”

Glasner suggested Edouard’s future could lie with another loan move if his situation at Leicester doesn’t improve.

“It is up to him and his agent. If he doesn’t get the minutes there, maybe it’s about finding another loan,” he added.

“We won’t say: ‘Come back. Come back. Come back, and then he will play.’

“It’s all about competition and performances. If you make a loan deal, it’s clear what every party wants.

“Leicester want a good player to help them win games. Odsonne wants minutes to improve his performance and score goals.

“For us, it’s so that when he comes back, he’s in a better situation than when he left.

“He didn’t get many minutes there, so I think the situation is even worse when he comes back.

“It makes no sense.”
