Ruud van Nistelrooy has explained why Mads Hermansen was substituted at halftime during Leicester City’s heavy defeat to Newcastle United.
Hermansen started in goal at St James’ Park and appeared to be in good condition during the first half.
However, when the teams returned for the second 45 minutes, Danny Ward was brought on to replace the Dane, a decision that left Foxes supporters puzzled, particularly as Leicester went on to concede three more goals in the second half.
Following the match, Van Nistelrooy addressed the situation and clarified the reason behind Hermansen’s early exit.

Speaking to the media, Van Nistelrooy confirmed that Hermansen had picked up an injury and was unable to continue.
He provided an update on the goalkeeper’s condition, suggesting that further assessments would determine his availability for the next game.
“When Mads comes off, then it’s an injury. He felt a pain in the groin, so he couldn’t continue,” the Leicester boss explained.
“We have to assess what it’s like.
“He was just certain he couldn’t continue the game. He didn’t want to make it worse. We have to assess. Hopefully it’s not too much. But of course, he doesn’t come off like that.”
Who will replace Mads Hermansen?
Replacing Leicester’s first-choice goalkeeper could prove challenging. Jakub Stolarczyk, last season’s backup, remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from injury. Daniel Iversen, who hasn’t featured all season, is unlikely to be called upon either.
That leaves Danny Ward, who stepped in against Newcastle, as the only realistic option.
However, Ward’s performance during the game raised concerns among fans, who may fear the worst if Hermansen is sidelined for an extended period.
