Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in Lens defender Kevin Danso as the January transfer window approaches, according to L’Équipe (via Sport Witness).

Wolves are joined by Southampton and Villarreal in their interest in Danso, with the French club under pressure to sell players next month to address financial concerns.

Lens are said to be open to offers for any squad member, with Danso likely to depart if a suitable bid arrives.

The Austrian international, regarded as “one of the best defenders in Ligue 1,” is reportedly reconsidering his future at Lens following a failed summer move to Roma due to medical issues. With his future uncertain, a move in January could now be on the cards.

Danso’s addition would provide a significant boost to Wolves, who on Thursday announced the appointment of Vitor Pereira as their new manager on an 18-month contract.

The Premier League side currently sit 19th in the table, having endured a difficult campaign defensively, with 40 goals conceded in just 16 matches – the highest in the league.

The departure of former captain Max Kilman to West Ham during the summer has left a void in Wolves’ backline.

Their defensive issues have been compounded by Yerson Mosquera’s long-term injury in October, leaving the team vulnerable at the back.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Wolves are prioritising a replacement for Kilman in January, having failed to find an internal solution to their defensive woes.

Danso has emerged as a leading candidate, alongside other potential targets such as Nico Elvedi and Max Wober.

With Lens open to negotiations and Wolves desperate to shore up their defence, Danso could become a key target for the Midlands club as they prepare for what is shaping up to be a crucial month in the transfer market.
