Jamie Carragher has suggested that Sean Dyche is likely to part ways with Everton at the end of the season following The Friedkin Group’s takeover on Thursday.
Dyche’s current contract with the Toffees expires in the summer, and Carragher believes the new ownership will seek a fresh managerial approach as Everton prepare for a new era.
Speaking on Sky Sports on 19 December, Carragher backed Dyche to guide the club to Premier League safety before moving on.
“I don’t think there’s any chance whatsoever, and there shouldn’t be, of Dyche not managing them this season,” Carragher said.
“He will keep them up. He knows what he’s doing, he’ll get enough clean sheets, he’ll get enough wins at home, at Goodison, to keep them in the division.
“But I do think with the new owners and the new stadium, they will probably go for a new manager next because Dyche’s contract runs out in the summer anyway. I think he’ll keep them in the Premier League and leave at the end of the season.”
Dyche’s tenure under scrutiny
Dyche arrived at Goodison Park in January 2023 when the club was battling relegation. He succeeded in steering Everton to safety and repeated the feat last season despite the club enduring two points deductions.
While Dyche’s efforts have been appreciated, frustrations have grown among the fanbase this season. Everton sit 16th in the Premier League, just three points clear of the relegation zone, prompting calls for change.
Supporters have also criticised Dyche’s pragmatic style of play, with many feeling it no longer aligns with the ambitions of the club under new ownership.
The arrival of The Friedkin Group, coupled with the impending move to the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, has heightened expectations for progress.
A likely departure
Despite the criticism, Dyche remains Everton’s best bet for avoiding relegation this term. His experience and ability to grind out results make him a reliable option to ensure the club retains its Premier League status.
However, Carragher’s comments reflect a growing consensus that a new manager will be brought in to lead Everton into the next chapter under The Friedkin Group’s stewardship, marking the end of Dyche’s time on Merseyside.
