JUST IN – Out of favour ace could now seal ’emotional’ return to Leicester City in stunning cut-price deal that might just keep the Foxes afloat and avoid relegation this season

They say you should never go back, but for Leicester City, a return to the familiar might be exactly what they need.

With the January transfer window just around the corner, the club is gearing up to make moves that could bolster Ruud van Nistelrooy’s squad.

As part of their strategy, Leicester could consider offloading players whose contracts expire in 2025 to generate additional funds for new signings.

One position that appears to need urgent attention is centre-back. Leicester’s defensive frailties have been apparent this season, and the club is evaluating targets to address the issue. Among the options, there’s growing speculation about a potential homecoming for a former fan favourite.

The opening of the winter transfer window on January 1 marks a crucial time for clubs and players alike, particularly for those out of contract in 2025.

For Premier League players with less than six months left on their deals, opportunities to negotiate with clubs outside England arise, while domestic moves could see significant discounts.

Harry Maguire, currently at Manchester United, finds himself in the spotlight. With his role at Old Trafford diminishing, a transfer seems inevitable, and Leicester City has emerged as one of the interested parties.

Reports from The Athletic suggest that a return to Leicester holds an “emotional pull” for Maguire, who left the club in 2019 for a record-breaking £80 million fee.

Admired by Van Nistelrooy, the England defender could be available at a fraction of that price, making a reunion with the Foxes a tantalizing prospect.

The one stumbling block Leicester face in Harry Maguire move

However, as is often the case with transfers, challenges remain. The most significant hurdle Leicester would face is Maguire’s current wages.

According to Capology, Maguire earns a staggering £190,000 per week at Manchester United, a figure that would make him Leicester’s highest-paid player by a considerable margin.

For a club whose financial struggles have been well-documented, matching such a salary could be a dealbreaker. A move would likely require Maguire to take a significant pay cut, a decision that could complicate negotiations.

While the idea of bringing Maguire back to the King Power Stadium has undeniable appeal, practicalities could ultimately determine whether this emotional return becomes a reality.

With the January window fast approaching, Leicester must weigh their options carefully as they aim to strengthen their squad for the battles ahead.
