Celtic are on the brink of securing the £9 million return of Jota, with the deal expected to be finalized on Monday.
The Portuguese winger is set to make a dramatic return to Parkhead just 18 months after departing for Saudi Arabia.
Jota was spotted back in Glasgow on Saturday, where he was engaged in final negotiations for a long-term deal believed to span four-and-a-half years.
Manager Brendan Rodgers expressed optimism on Friday, suggesting the transfer could be wrapped up within 24 hours. However, with no official announcement over the weekend, Celtic may now confirm the deal at the start of the week.
Meanwhile, Kyogo Furuhashi’s move to Rennes remains unconfirmed. The Japanese forward traveled to France four days ago to complete the final details of his transfer and undergo a medical.
Rodgers, keen to reinforce his squad, is actively searching for a replacement for Kyogo. Among the potential candidates is Mathias Kvistgaarden, the Danish striker currently at Brondby.
Jota’s return has sparked excitement among Celtic fans, many of whom were disheartened when he left for Al-Ittihad in a £25 million transfer.
The 25-year-old’s stint in Saudi Arabia proved unsuccessful, and he moved to Rennes last summer. However, his time in France was marred by a lack of opportunities under manager Jorge Sampaoli, paving the way for Celtic to make their approach.
Rodgers is making significant changes to his squad ahead of the transfer window’s closure. Talks are also progressing for the potential return of Kieran Tierney.
