Everton are poised to intensify their pursuit of a new striker in the coming week following a fresh injury setback for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains highly connected in football circles, revealed this development in an exclusive interview with Football Insider.
Brown explained that Everton are exploring multiple options as the January transfer window nears its conclusion.
Back in November, Brown told Football Insider that Everton were already working on securing a striker due to their struggles in front of goal.
David Moyes has since confirmed that Calvert-Lewin’s injury is a hamstring problem, describing the player’s reaction as “of genuine concern” after he was forced off during the game against Brighton.
Brown highlighted that losing Calvert-Lewin is a “huge blow” for Everton but emphasized that it wouldn’t derail their existing transfer plans—only intensify them.
Securing a striker was already a key priority for the club this month, but Calvert-Lewin’s latest injury has turned it into an urgent mission for the recruitment team.
Everton’s efforts in the transfer market have also included plotting a potential sale of Beto. Brown, who boasts extensive experience in top-level recruitment from his time at Manchester United, believes Everton are now under significant pressure to deliver before the window shuts.
“I think they were going to sign a new striker anyway,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve gone down this road with Calvert-Lewin for long enough, he picks up an injury, comes back, doesn’t quite perform, then it happens again.
“It was a great performance for Moysey against Brighton, but he knows he needs a new striker.
“It’s a position they’ve needed to strengthen for some time.
“If Calvert-Lewin is out for a while, it only means they’re going to need to act faster.
“They need somebody in before the end of the window and I’m sure they’ll be putting in the work to make that happen.”
