Celtic defender Josh Dede is set to undergo a medical at Middlesbrough on Wednesday (29 January) after reaching an agreement, sources have informed Football Insider.
The 19-year-old right-back’s contract with Celtic was scheduled to expire at the end of the season, paving the way for the English Championship side to secure a deal with the Scottish powerhouse.
Dede, who progressed through Celtic’s youth system, has yet to make a first-team appearance for the club.
This season, he has been a regular for Celtic’s B team in the 2024-25 campaign, featuring in 21 matches in the Lowland League and scoring three goals.
The teenager has also represented the Hoops in the UEFA Youth League, facing top-tier opponents such as Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Atalanta.
At youth level, Dede has showcased his versatility for his boyhood club, excelling both in his natural right-back position and in a more advanced winger role.

He has also earned recognition at the international level, making four appearances for Scotland’s Under-19 side after beginning his journey with the Under-16 team.
The Glasgow-born talent is the latest in a line of Celtic youth products to make the move to England, following in the footsteps of players like Ben Doak, Rocco Vata, Karamoko Dembele, and Daniel Kelly.
Middlesbrough have been active in the transfer market this month, securing the signings of Morgan Whittaker, George Edmundson, and Ryan Giles.
Under Michael Carrick’s management, Middlesbrough currently sit sixth in the Championship table, despite a recent defeat to Preston on Saturday (25 January).
