Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the club has secured a deal for Kieran Tierney to rejoin from Arsenal, with the transfer set to occur in the summer.

However, Rodgers expressed a desire to expedite the move during the current January transfer window.

He stated, “I think we’re agreed that it will definitely take place in the summer. If we can do it beforehand, then great.”

Rodgers emphasized that while the agreement is in place for the summer, bringing Tierney back sooner would be beneficial.

He added, “If we were able to do it (in January), of course, we would like to do that, but that’s out of our control at this moment in time.”

Tierney, a product of Celtic’s youth system, was sold to Arsenal in 2019 for £25 million. His potential return has been a topic of speculation, especially after it became clear that Arsenal would not extend his contract beyond this season.

Rodgers acknowledged the situation, saying, “He is still, at this moment, an Arsenal player. We are agreed that it will definitely take place in the summer. If we can do it before that, then great.”

The urgency to bring Tierney back in January has increased following the departure of Álex Valle, who was recalled by Barcelona from his loan spell at Celtic.

Rodgers commented on Valle’s exit, stating, “He is in Barcelona at the moment and will probably be heading out to another team.”

While Celtic has an agreement for Tierney’s return in the summer, efforts are ongoing to facilitate his move during the current transfer window, though this remains uncertain.
