David Moyes is on the verge of returning to Everton as manager, with negotiations moving swiftly toward a finalized deal.
The Friedkin Group (TFG), Everton’s new owners, have identified the Scotsman as their top choice to replace Sean Dyche, who parted ways with the club on Thursday.
Discussions between TFG and Moyes have progressed rapidly, and an official announcement is anticipated within the next 24 hours.
Moyes is seen as the ideal candidate to stabilize Everton’s Premier League position, a critical goal ahead of the club’s move to the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
TFG also envisions Moyes as a key figure in shaping the club’s longer-term future, with the length of his contract expected to reflect these ambitions.
The Athletic previously reported that Moyes was Everton’s preferred option to succeed Dyche, whose departure came after two years in charge.
Dyche’s exit was confirmed just hours before Everton’s FA Cup third-round match against Peterborough, following a poor run of form that left the team hovering one point above the relegation zone in 16th place.
Moyes has been out of management since leaving West Ham United at the end of last season, following the conclusion of his contract.
This marks Moyes’ second stint at Goodison Park, having managed Everton from 2002 to 2013. During that time, he delivered nine top-10 finishes, guided the team to the Champions League qualifying stages in 2005, and led them to an FA Cup final in 2009.
He departed Everton in 2013 to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, where he lasted 10 months before being dismissed.
Most recently, Moyes achieved significant success with West Ham, leading them to a Europa Conference League title and a Europa League quarter-final appearance in consecutive seasons.
