Kris Boyd has never been one to hide his emotions, particularly when Celtic are in action.

The former Rangers striker, now a pundit for Sky Sports, has been at the center of several controversial takes this season, often sparking debate among fans.

His reactions to Celtic’s dominance have been anything but subtle, and today was no different as the Hoops extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 18 points following a 4-1 victory over Ross County.

Back in late December, Boyd appeared visibly frustrated as Celtic went 14 points clear in the league.

More recently, his criticism reached new levels after the Hoops lifted the Premier Sports Cup and were awarded a penalty against Motherwell for a foul on Yang.

Today, however, it was a penalty decision against Celtic that had Boyd animated in the studio.

Boyd on Alistair Johnston’s Penalty Incident

Alistair Johnston conceded a penalty for pulling down his opponent in the box, a moment of carelessness that could have been costly.

Jordan White converted the spot-kick to level the score at 1-1, briefly putting Ross County back in contention after Kyogo had opened the scoring.

Celtic quickly regained control, with Kyogo adding a second and further goals from Arne Engels and Luke McCowan securing a convincing win.

Yet, Boyd’s focus remained on Johnston’s foul, arguing that the Canadian defender was fortunate not to be sent off.

“I cannot understand how that is not a red card,” Boyd said – with a straight face, no less.

“There is no attempt to play the ball there.

“He said it himself he got on the wrong side of him, Celtic should be down to 10 men.

“There was no attempt to play the ball.”

VAR Criticism

Boyd also took aim at VAR, accusing the officials of trying to find a reason not to award the penalty.

“They seemed to go around the houses trying to find something wrong with it!” he said while discussing the decision with Chris Sutton and host Eilidh Barbour.

This isn’t the first time Boyd has called for a Celtic player to see red. Earlier in the season, he criticized Brendan Rodgers over a similar incident during a game against Aberdeen, further cementing his reputation as one of Celtic’s fiercest critics.

While Boyd’s passionate takes continue to divide opinion, Celtic remain firmly on course for another title, with their dominance on the pitch doing all the talking.
