Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that midfielder Odin Thiago Holm is set to join Los Angeles FC on loan, with the deal nearing completion.
Holm’s departure follows those of Stephen Welsh and Lenny Agbaire, who also exited Celtic this January.
Speaking before Celtic’s match against Ross County, Rodgers expressed confidence that the move would be finalized shortly and hinted at the possibility of further player exits during the transfer window.
The Norwegian U21 international has found game time hard to come by since his arrival in Glasgow in the summer of 2023.
Despite being highly regarded as a future talent, Holm has made just three appearances this season, playing a total of 24 minutes.
His omission from Celtic’s Champions League squad earlier in the season further highlighted his limited role in Rodgers’ plans, as intense competition in midfield left him on the fringes.
Rodgers told Celtic TV:
“Hopefully that will be confirmed soon. He’s due to go on loan. Welshy has gone to get some game time, and there may be one or two others over the course of the window. There are lots of conversations, both in and out, so we’ll see what happens.”
Holm’s move to LAFC provides the 21-year-old with an opportunity to reboot his career in a challenging and competitive environment. The loan deal, set to last until the end of the MLS season, gives the young midfielder a chance to secure regular minutes.
Rodgers’ comments about potential additional departures suggest that Celtic could see more movement before the window closes.
Speculation has surrounded players like Luis Palma and Greg Taylor, with reports linking them to possible transfers. The mention of “one or two others” leaving has even sparked conversations about the future of star striker Kyogo.
Despite Holm’s departure, Celtic remain well-stocked in midfield, with players such as Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Paulo Bernardo, Luke McCowan, and Arne Engels providing plenty of depth for Rodgers.
Holm’s exit is seen as a positive move for both parties, enabling him to gain valuable game time while allowing Celtic to streamline their squad.
