Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of finalizing a €20 million (£16.6 million) deal for Reims defender Emmanuel Agbadou, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Ivorian is poised to become Wolves’ first signing of the January transfer window under newly-appointed manager Vitor Pereira, who is tasked with steering the team clear of relegation.
Currently sitting in 17th place with 16 points, Wolves are just one point above the drop zone.
However, recent performances have shown promise, with the team maintaining an unbeaten run in Pereira’s first three matches in charge. Fans will be optimistic about building on this momentum in the second half of the season.
Wolves Set to Finalize Agbadou Transfer ‘Next Week’
A defensive signing has been a priority at Molineux this winter, and Romano reports that Wolves are now set to secure Agbadou as their first addition of the month.
The 27-year-old, who began his professional career in Tunisia, has been a standout for Reims over three seasons, making 80 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
Dubbed “exceptional,” Agbadou has been described as the “key defensive focal point” for Reims this campaign.
His arrival could provide a significant boost to a Wolves defense that has conceded the joint-most goals in the Premier League this season.
Romano also noted that Lens defender Kevin Danso was previously on Wolves’ shortlist for a potential January move.
Initially, the Midlands club were rumored to be considering a loan deal for the 26-year-old, but they have since shifted focus to a permanent move for Agbadou.
