Leicester City are exploring options to bolster Ruud van Nistelrooy’s squad across all positions in the January transfer window, as confirmed by the manager following their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.
The defensive frailties of the Foxes were once again on full display at Villa Park. Two costly mistakes led to their 12th defeat of the Premier League season, with Jannik Vestergaard’s misplaced header allowing Ross Barkley to score the opener and James Justin’s error gifting Leon Bailey the decisive goal.
Defensive errors have plagued Leicester throughout the campaign, with calls growing louder for James Justin to be dropped due to his poor form. However, injuries, including Ricardo Pereira’s absence, have left Van Nistelrooy with limited alternatives.
With the transfer window now open, Leicester are expected to act decisively to strengthen the squad and boost their chances of avoiding relegation.
While defensive reinforcements are seen as a priority, Van Nistelrooy emphasized that the club is looking to improve across the board.
“We’re looking at the possibilities and when the possibility is right for the club, we are looking to take them,” he said.
“We’re looking in all areas, possibilities to strengthen, not necessarily in a certain position. Everywhere in the squad.”
Despite being linked with several players, Leicester are yet to make any additions in the January transfer window.
Reports suggest a centre-back, a full-back, and a winger are among the key targets as the club works to address its weaknesses and climb the league table.
