Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall may be questioning his decision to join Chelsea after finding himself sidelined under the management of Enzo Maresca.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who was a key figure in Leicester’s Championship-winning campaign last season, has played only 55 minutes of Premier League football since his £30 million transfer to Stamford Bridge in July.

Dewsbury-Hall last appeared in the league during Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Southampton in early December, playing just the final 11 minutes.

Since then, he has either been left on the bench, as he was for the Tottenham and Brentford games, or excluded entirely due to injury, missing matches against Everton, Fulham, and Ipswich.

The move to Chelsea initially seemed like an ideal opportunity for Dewsbury-Hall to thrive under Maresca, a manager who had relied heavily on him during their time at Leicester.

His stellar performances in the Championship, where he scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 44 appearances, had made him Leicester’s standout player and a key figure in their title win.

However, the transition to Stamford Bridge has not gone as expected. Despite his previous success, Dewsbury-Hall has struggled to break into Chelsea’s star-studded midfield, which features Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo—two players who cost the club a combined £221 million with add-ons. Maresca’s selections suggest the Englishman is not in his Premier League plans.

Dewsbury-Hall has seen more action in cup competitions, starting five of Chelsea’s six Conference League matches and both Carabao Cup games, including their fourth-round exit against Newcastle. He also featured in the team’s Conference League qualifiers earlier in the season.

While these appearances have given him some game time, it’s unlikely Dewsbury-Hall envisioned his Chelsea career being limited to cup competitions.

When he made the switch from Leicester, he surely hoped to establish himself in the Premier League, playing a significant role in the team’s most important fixtures. So far, that dream remains unfulfilled.
