Forest, along with Arsenal, also showed interest in Igor Jesus from Botafogo. However, the striker has chosen to remain in Brazil, feeling a sense of loyalty to the reigning champions after a standout 2024 season in which he scored 25 goals.
Securing a new striker was always going to be a challenge. Chris Wood has earned praise from Alan Shearer this season and is enjoying the best form of his career as the central striker in Nuno Espirito Santo’s system.
Forest Could Now Beat Arsenal to Matheus Cunha:
According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest should not be ruled out of the race to sign Cunha in the summer. Arsenal are also in the mix for the Wolves star, with the Gunners expected to sign a striker during the upcoming transfer window.
Forest pursued Cunha in January, but Wolves managed to convince the player to sign a new contract, which includes a £62.5 million release clause set to activate in the summer.
Romano told Give Me Sport that Forest remain in contention for Cunha’s signature, even if Arsenal maintain their interest, emphasizing that Evangelos Marinakis is prepared to demonstrate his ambition once again in the summer.
Cunha Would Be a Stellar Signing for Forest:
On Sunday, Cunha added to his impressive goal tally for the 2024/25 season, scoring his 12th goal in a standout performance against Blackburn Rovers as Wolves advanced in the FA Cup.
The 25-year-old has been in exceptional form this season, and Forest have clearly identified the versatile forward as a key target ahead of what promises to be a significant summer transfer window.
Morgan Gibbs-White has already voiced his support for the potential signing of Cunha. The two previously played together at Wolves, and Cunha’s arrival would represent a high-quality addition, bringing a proven Premier League performer to the club.
