Manchester United target Matheus Cunha has a release clause that is lower than previously reported.
The Red Devils have struggled significantly in attack this season, managing to score just 28 goals in 24 league matches.
To address this glaring issue, United have been linked with several attacking players.
Among the names discussed are Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres and Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen, both considered potential targets for the number nine role this summer.
However, United’s interest isn’t limited to strikers alone. The club is also looking to bolster its attacking midfield options, and Wolves’ Matheus Cunha has emerged as a recurring target. Cunha recently delivered a standout performance against United on Boxing Day, scoring directly from a corner in a 2-0 victory for Wolves.
Despite signing a new contract at Molineux, reports suggest Cunha is still keen on a summer exit.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, “Matheus Cunha will be one of the big names next summer.”
The outlet reveals that “his new release clause is set at just over 70 million euros (60 million pounds), which will take effect from this June and will not change if the team is relegated to the Championship, although it could be negotiated.”
The clause has been described as a “bargain,” with both United and Tottenham Hotspur closely monitoring his progress.
Cunha’s new contract, which runs until 2029, reportedly “does not close the door” to an exit, and “his departure is almost inevitable.”
The 25-year-old has been in impressive form this season, contributing 12 goals and four assists in 25 matches, making him Wolves’ most effective attacking player.
United manager Ruben Amorim is said to be keen on securing the Brazilian’s services, and the interest appears to be mutual. Cunha has previously expressed that it is “gratifying” to be linked with a club of United’s stature.
