Wolves manager Vitor Pereira is expected to face disciplinary action from the FA following his post-match comments after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, according to Keith Hackett.

The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that Pereira is likely to be questioned by “the authorities” about his remarks after the loss on Saturday (15 February).

Wolves were aiming for a third consecutive win, having secured victories against Aston Villa in the Premier League and Blackburn Rovers in the cup, but they were unable to overcome Liverpool.

Luis Diaz put the Reds ahead in the 15th minute, and Mohamed Salah extended their lead with a penalty in the 37th minute. Referee Simon Hooper was praised for his decision to award the spot-kick after Diaz went down following contact from Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Matheus Cunha, who is likely to leave Wolves in the summer, pulled one back for the Midlands side in the 67th minute, giving them hope of a comeback. Despite creating some promising chances, Wolves couldn’t find an equalizer in the closing stages.

After the match, Pereira made his frustrations clear, saying, “If I had yellow cards in my pocket,” while gesturing as if he were showing cards to the referee, before adding, “Or maybe a red card.”

The Portuguese manager was visibly unhappy with several decisions that went against his team. Ibrahima Konaté was fortunate to avoid a red card after a challenge on Cunha while already on a yellow, and Diogo Jota escaped punishment for an apparent dive, further adding to Pereira’s frustrations.

Speaking to Football Insider about Pereira’s post-match comments, Hackett said: “I suggest that the manager will be asked by the authorities for his comments.

“Then expect him to receive a sanction from the Football Association.”

Despite the seemingly light-hearted tone of Pereira’s remarks, they were critical in nature, and the Wolves boss is likely to face some form of punishment from the FA.

The defeat leaves Wolves in 17th place in the Premier League table, just two points above Ipswich, who are in the relegation zone.
